Bourbon Madagascar Vanilla Beans - Prime or Grade A

We offers the finest gourmet quality Bourbon Madagascar vanilla beans in a wide variety of packaging options from 3 beans to a one pound pouch. These are gourmet prime beans, which are also known as Grade A1 or quality 1 vanilla beans. They are moist and flexible, full of seeds with a rich deep black coloration. Our beans are the cream of the crop and representative of some of the finest vanilla beans produced in Madagascar each year.

Our vanilla beans are packed in vacuum sealed pouches and sold by weight. The bean counts in these pouches can vary depending on the size of the beans. As a general rule, a 1/4 lb. pouch has 23-27 beans a 1/2 lb. pouch has 45-55 beans and a 1 lb. pouch has 90-110 vanilla beans. If you require a specific bean count we recommend you choose one of our specific bean count options (3, 5, 10, 12, 25 and 50 beans).

These are the BEST Madagascar vanilla beans I have bought anywhere. They are longer, and smell and taste significantly better than beans from any other source I have purchased from. In addition, the company is very honest. Every package I have received has a net weight not only equal to but usually slightly more than the stated net weight. This might not sound like a big deal, but the beans I have bought from every other source have actually weighed LESS than the stated weight. These people have integrity.

I have ordered the 8 oz. package twice now, and I can't believe the quantity AND the quality. They are AMAZING! I got about 45 means and they are huge and so moist and fresh. Unlike any I have seen. I mostly use them in my homemade almond milk, but love them for many things. Others I have used are dry and brittle but not these. A real bargain!

These are some of the best burbon vanilla you are going to find on the web.The vanillium content is high,all beans were unblemished with great aroma and the vanillum content was about 2.4.Excellent price

Using Vanilla Beans
When your cake or ice cream recipe calls for one teaspoon of vanilla extract, try substituting one vanilla bean.  You can also use vanilla beans to make delicious vanilla sugar. This is a good use for beans, which have dried and are no longer fresh and pliable.  Cover the beans in 2 cups of granulated or Turbinado sugar for 2-3 weeks.  The vanilla sugar can be used anywhere regular sugar is needed. It is especially nice when used to sweeten espresso, lattes or used in cookie and cake recipes.

How to Prepare Vanilla Beans
Place the vanilla bean on a piece of wax paper or clean cutting surface. Gently slice from the center towards each end. Carefully open the cut bean and scrape the delicate seeds with a knife blade. Opening the seed pod before placing it in a liquid exposes more of the bean’s surface and intensifies the vanilla’s natural flavor.

How to Store Vanilla Beans
To keep your beans fresh, store them in a cool area in the same vacuum sealed pouch in which they were shipped.  If you have opened the pouch and cannot vacuum re-seal them with a food saver, wrap the beans in plastic wrap and store them in an air-tight container.  Never refrigerate your vanilla beans.  There is a mold that can bloom if the vanilla beans are refrigerated.  Vacuum sealed beans stored properly can last for up to three years. 

How to Make Your Own Pure Vanilla Extract
Place 5-6 beans in a liter of vodka or rum (my preference is a good quality gold rum, such as Mount Gay or Bacardi).  You can split the beans as described above. Shake the bottle occasionally and store for 6-8 weeks.  If you split the beans, the extract will have seeds in it, which can be filtered.  Whole beans work as well and there will be no seeds in your extract.  Your homemade extract can be used for baking and is also wonderful served over ice or used with mixers such as cola or tonic.

News

Vanilla bean and extract prices have increased significantly this year. This is due to a smaller than expected crop in Madagascar last year. This was aggravated by early picking and the vacuum packing of uncured beans. While short term the news is not good, the 2016 flowering was excellent and we anticipate a good harvest. This may lead to some price softening, but with the strong demand for vanilla we have seen it is hard to say how much relief we will see. We will know more later this year as new crop, cured beans become available. Best case we do not anticipate any significant reduction in price before the end of the 1st quarter of 2017.
