Salt Cellar - Acacia Wood - DISCONTINUED

Our Salt Cellar makes a wonderful gift for a friend or relative who enjoys cooking. Made from Acacia wood, each cellar has a unique pattern and grain that varies in color from gold to chocolate brown.

Acacia wood has a rich history. Because of its extrodinary strength, in Biblical times it was used in the construction of bows and boats. Perhaps the most significant use for the wood was the building of the covenant box, which was placed in the middle chamber of King Solomon's Temple.

Acacia is an environmentally friendly hardwood that is grown on all continents. This pod bearing tree (known as monkeypod in Hawaii) is farmed throughout South East Asia for use in furniture and housewares. One of the special characteristics of Acacia wood is an unusual property known as 'chatoyancy' - it appears to change color and luster in different lighting conditions as if to shimmer. The wood can change from a light tan to a dark brown...sometimes appearing similar to walnut and sometimes more like teak.

It is easy to care for your acacia wood salt cellar. Wash the cellar in warm, soapy water and thoroughly rinse with clean water. Never soak or wash any wood salt cellar. To dry, prop up and allow all surfaces to air dry evenly.

After drying, rejuvenate and protect the wood by rubbing it down with butcher block oil. Apply the oil liberally and allow it to soak in thoroughly before use. Regular application of butcher block Oil will prevent cracking and preserve the rich natural colors of the wood for many years.
