What is an Additional Shipping Charge?
Many extracts and flavors contain ethyl alcohol or other ingredients which make them hazardous when shipping. When a product is hazardous, the shipper (UPS, Federal Express) charges a hazardous shipping fee of to cover the added cost associated with transporting hazardous goods. This fee is typically $25.00. This fee is in addition to the standard shipping charges.
There are exemptions for “limited quantities.” These exemptions are based on the hazardous group in which the extract or flavor is categorized. Depending on the group associated with the product the exemption is typically for a packaging unit of a gallon or less. If you are charged an additional shipping charge for a gallon, you should try entering the order as 4 quarts. We are adding a 4 quart option to the items requiring an additional shipping charge. In most cases purchasing 4 quarts without the additional shipping charge is less than the cost of a gallon with the added $25.00 fee. The hazardous shipping charge is for the package, not the unit. If you purchase 4 gallons in lieu of 1 gallon you are still charged $25.00 since our boxes hold 4 gallons. Orders of 8 gallons are charged $50.00 or $25.00 for each 4 gallon box.
